Sharpy
by Missionary Bob Carpenter
"Let
us start at the beginning. When Sharpy was born, his mother was not married to
his father. In fact, a little later she was married to a different man. With
time, other children were born into the family and Sharpy grew as children do.
These early days of his childhood were not pleasant. His stepfather did not like
him. He told Sharpy, "You are a dirty little illegitimate child. When you
die, you will go to hell."
It happened that Sharpy's mother had a relative that was a Christian. This man
and his wife took Sharpy in as part of their family and he lived with them for
several years. Through them he heard the gospel and became a believer.
He came to our Sunday School class for a while at Mufumbwe. The Lord used us and
others to help Sharpy understand that God was not angry with him for something
that his parents did. He was helped to understand that as a believer he will be
in heaven with Jesus when he dies. Sharpy became active in our church youth
group and helped teach Junior Church.
Sharpy is now in his second year of college in Lusaka and he is active in the
church there. He feels that perhaps the Lord will let him use his training to be
a witness for Christ in a land where many of the people do not know the gospel.
Friend, if you come from a happy Christian home, why not stop and thank the Lord
for what he has done for you? On the other hand, if your home was not a happy
one, there is life, hope, and help in the Lord Jesus. If you come to Him, He can
take your life and make you into the person that you should be. You can find
peace, purpose, and everlasting life by a personal faith in the Lord Jesus
Christ.
